Detailed Description of the project
The overall objective of the support project of which this contract will be a part of, is to support market access and quality management for small ruminant farmers in the framework of the sustainable expansion of the Small Ruminant Revitalization Program and the beneficial integration of this agro-industry into the national and regional economy and, thereby contribute to sustainable economic development and poverty reduction in The Bahamas.
The two-fold purposes of this support project are as follows:
- Purpose 1: To develop an agri-business model to modernize the small ruminant farming in the Bahamas and ensure sustainability of productivity and trade expansion;
- Purpose 2: To identify appropriate product quality management techniques and train small ruminant farmers in standard compliance, labeling and competitiveness of farm products.
Nature and Scope of the services provided
The Support Project will utilize the services of two contracted experts to provide a range of highly-specialized technical services to the farmers of small ruminants. These services involve:
- Consultations with relevant stakeholders, including but not limited to the Bahamas Development Bank (BDB), the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources (MAMR) of the Bahamas, The Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI) and the Caribbean Agricultural Research & Development Institute (CARDI) and the actual and potential farmers as required;
- Provision of the key technical support as stipulated in these terms of reference; and Preparation of technical reports in the areas covered by these Terms of Reference.
In addition to the reports required under Section 7.1 of these Terms of Reference, the expert will prepare monthly briefs for inclusion in the TradeCom II Programme’s newsletter.
