Detailed Description of the Project
The overall objective of the support project of which this contract will be a part is to support the beneficial integration of the PACPS – Solomon Islands – into the regional and global economies through fostering sustained compliance by the Solomon Islands’ exporters to EU market access requirements and efficiently implement Protocol II (RoO) for an increase in the country’s market share and, thereby, contribute to sustainable economic development and poverty reduction in the country.
In the context of enhancing the capacity of the Solomon Islands’ business community to effectively make use of the trading opportunities under the Pacific-EU EPA and, thus, expand their trade with the European Union, the purpose of the support project is three-fold:
- Purpose 1: To assist the Solomon Islands’ export-ready business community to take advantage of the trading opportunities under the Pacific-EU EPA;
- Purpose 2: To assist the export-ready Solomon Islands’ business communities—selected exporters—and the Government support institutions build capacities to meet Sanitary and Phytosanitary conformity requirements under the Pacific-EU EPA;
- Purpose 3: To provide training for the private sector executives and government officials (customs, health, bio-security, commerce and trade) on the Protocol II on the Rules of Origin of the Pacific-EU EPA.
Nature and scope of the Services Provided
The project will utilize the services of a team of experts to provide a range of highly specialized technical services to the
Solomon Islands’ authorities and the business community. These services involve:
- Consultations with the key government institutions and the business community during implementation of this project;
- Provision of capacity building services as stipulated in these Terms of Reference;
- For the sustainability of the project’s interventions and impact, provision of advice on plausible partnerships with
- European and Global Development Partners and trade support institutions with similar mission and competencies;
- Preparation of technical reports and targeted outputs in the areas covered by these Terms of Reference.
